How to best manage the growing issue of cyber crime <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, with the advantages that technology gives us in terms of organisation, efficiency and effectiveness, most businesses are dependent on technology for managing communication, creating and storing files and accessing financial information, and much of this is done online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But with this come risks, from basic Phishing to complex cyber attacks and with them, increased threats to data privacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the past two years have seen the highest level of cyber attacks against UK firms on record, with recent statistics from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) revealing that half of businesses (50%) and around a third of charities (32%) report having experienced some form of cyber security breach or attack in the last 12 months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data, contained in the annual Cyber Security Breaches Survey<\/a> <\/em>paints a stark picture of the threat facing the average UK business, and the urgent need to implement basic controls and to comply with standards such as Cyber Essentials to help defend your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no question that cyber security needs to be a priority for any business regardless of size, sector, or resources available \u2013 but cyber security can be a complicated and complex environment \u2013 so where do you start? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The North East Business Resilience Centre (NEBRC) was established as part of a national network to provide support and guidance to businesses regarding risk and fraud. An impartial, not-for-profit organisation the NEBRC is police-led and resourced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
