{"id":1921,"date":"2024-08-01T21:32:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-01T21:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nebrcentre.co.uk\/?p=1921"},"modified":"2024-08-01T21:32:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T21:32:00","slug":"whos-watching-your-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crcnetwork-cfkr6.projectbeta.co.uk\/northeastcrc\/whos-watching-your-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Who&#8217;s Watching Your Business?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>How to best manage the growing issue of cyber crime&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, with the advantages that technology gives us in terms of organisation, efficiency and effectiveness, most businesses are dependent on&nbsp;technology for managing communication, creating and&nbsp;storing files and accessing financial information, and much of this is done online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with&nbsp;this&nbsp;come&nbsp;risks,&nbsp;from basic Phishing to complex&nbsp;cyber attacks&nbsp;and&nbsp;with them, increased threats to&nbsp;data privacy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, the past two years have seen the highest level of&nbsp;cyber attacks&nbsp;against UK firms on record, with&nbsp;recent&nbsp;statistics from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) revealing that half of businesses (50%) and around a third of charities (32%) report having experienced some form of cyber security breach or attack in the last 12 months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data, contained in the annual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/cyber-security-breaches-survey-2024\/cyber-security-breaches-survey-2024\">Cyber Security Breaches Survey<\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em>paints a stark picture of the threat facing the average UK&nbsp;business, and the urgent need to&nbsp;implement&nbsp;basic&nbsp;controls and&nbsp;to comply with&nbsp;standards&nbsp;such as Cyber Essentials&nbsp;to&nbsp;help defend your&nbsp;business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no question that&nbsp;cyber security needs to be a priority for any business regardless of size,&nbsp;sector,&nbsp;or resources available&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;but&nbsp;cyber security&nbsp;can be&nbsp;a complicated and complex environment&nbsp;\u2013 so&nbsp;where do you start?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;North East&nbsp;Business Resilience Centre (NEBRC) was established as part of a&nbsp;national&nbsp;network&nbsp;to&nbsp;provide support&nbsp;and guidance to&nbsp;businesses&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;risk and fraud.
