In August, the UK government announced new rules<\/a> to protect UK telecoms networks against cyber attacks. These new regulations are set to encourage good security practices and protect mobile and broadband networks from cyber threats that cause network failure or the theft of confidential data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement follows a significant recent increase in cyber crime. In the past year alone, we have seen governments and businesses alike crippled by cyber attacks<\/a> that have taken out important networks and exposed sensitive information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, in August, the NHS was affected by a ransomware attack<\/a> that hit a software supplier, which resulted in services being shut down and staff resorting to the use of pen and paper.Government agencies linked to the NHS were impacted too as they scrambled to get systems online, which proved to be costly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new security rules, and the rise in attacks over the past year, should encourage your business to ensure it’s protected within the current threat landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should consider educating your staff on staying safe online<\/a>, developing a response plan, and staying on top of risk management.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To stay safe, ensure that you have defences in place that prevent the possibility of a successful cyber attack: this can include maintaining up-to-date security software, password managers, and a backup server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
