These scams involve fraudsters posing as trusted individuals or organisations to deceive victims into divulging sensitive information or transferring funds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the\u202f<strong>UK Finance Annual Fraud Report 2024<\/strong>, total losses due to impersonation scams amounted to \u00a3136.2 million, with 34,157 reported cases.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An impersonation scam occurs when a criminal pretends to be from a trusted organisation such as the police, a bank or supplier. The scam<s>s<\/s> usually begins with a call, text or email requesting money or personal information such as bank details.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI has enabled scammers to create highly convincing fake images, videos and audio recordings, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent communications. Notably, AI-generated deepfakes have been used to impersonate celebrities and public figures in such fraudulent schemes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be aware! Criminals are becoming ever more sophisticated and can spend hours researching you and your business in order to perform a credible impersonation email, call or text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.takefive-stopfraud.org.uk\/\"><strong>Take Five to Stop Fraud<\/strong><\/a><strong> guidance is as follows:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STOP!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could it be fake? It\u2019s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests.
