You may have seen the article in The Sunday Times<\/em> claiming that \u201cpolice can\u2019t stop cybercrime\u201d and that businesses need to accept this reality and protect themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On one hand, the article makes a fair point: we\u2019re living in a time where criminals can target your business from anywhere in the world. They don\u2019t need to break into your shop or office \u2013 they just need to send the right message at the right time, and hope someone clicks. That means the old ways of policing \u2013 where someone commits a crime, and officers investigate and make an arrest \u2013 don\u2019t always fit the scale or nature of what\u2019s happening online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But where the article falls short is in assuming that \u201cpolice can\u2019t help\u201d \u2013 and that businesses are largely on their own. That\u2019s not the full picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, this is exactly<\/em> why centres like the South West Cyber Resilience Centre exist. We\u2019re police-led, but we don\u2019t wait until after something\u2019s gone wrong.
